The artist acknowledged that her hair grayed prematurely while she was in her 20s, and she dyed her hair for a while before realizing that her body cannot tolerate the chemicals which can be found in the dyes. During the study, the researchers surveyed the medical records of more than 45,000 women and discovered that there is a direct correlation between permanent hair dye and breast cancer, especially among women of color.

A controversy was sparked after the authors of the study referenced a previous paper that stated that hair products made for black women could contain a higher amount of dangerous chemicals. Keanu Reeves and Alexandra Grant have been friends for almost a decade. The pair worked on two books written by Reeves for which Grant provided the illustrations. She is also the founder of the grantLove project, which offers original artworks and supports arts NGOs.
