There is no point in hiding the truth. We can already see what you are thinking just by reading the title of this article. Attempting to franchise video games to the big screen has been a let down for so many fans in love with the respective video game. However, this doesn’t stop Hollywood from trying!
Video game adaptions are hard to be made in a way to satisfy the public. However, we have three video game movies coming out here in 2020, and we hope not to be disappointed. Here we go!
Top 3 Video Game-Based Movies To Roll Out In 2020
Ni No Kuni
A western version of Ni No Kuni is coming to Netflix in January. The story of Ni No Kuni is about two teenagers being dragged into a magical world full of all kinds of creatures and different landscapes compared to their world. Both teenagers are keen on saving their friends; however, things may not go out as planned, and they could be placed in opposite teams. There are still a few similarities, but this plot differs from the original one.
The original game plot follows the journey of Oliver, a resident of Mantorville. While trying out a new vehicle designed by his friend Philip, Oliver almost drowns, but is saved by his mother Allie; however, she immediately dies from heart problems after saving him. Although the jury is still out on the English version of the movie, Japan fans are not so impressed as the visuals don’t match up to that of the games.
Monster Hunter
Moving forward with Monster Hunter, a game series about a series about tracking, hunting, and defeating a variety of large, dinosaur-like enemies. What’s there not to like? Monster Hunter had been favored by the fan base since its release back in 2004, so of course, Hollywood couldn’t hold its horses at such a large scale spectacle.
Paul W. S. Anderson, a well knows the director of adapting video games to movies, is interested in doing just the same with Monster Hunter. The rumors about this concept were out since 2012. The director plans to have Milla Jovovich as the starting role.
Milla Jovovich, the leading actress from the Resident Evil franchise, will be playing Captain Natalie Artemis, who is a member of a United Nations military team that gets transported to another dimension where strange beasts roam the land. Only time will tell how faithful an adaptation this movie will be.
Sonic the Hedgehog
All it took to get fans confused and concerned was the trailer. Well, the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog, so to say. The overall trailer was quite a big disappointment. The music, the editing, and don’t get us started with Sonic’s design itself. Just wrong with its human teeth, eyes spread out too far, etc. To put it simply, it brought a lot of hate from just about everyone on the internet.
One good thing, though, is that it got the attention of Sega and the film’s maker, Paramount, which ended in the movie being delayed and changes made. The plot, it seems not to have changed, focusing on what would happen if Sonic was transported to our world. The movie also portraits characters known to the Sonic game, such as Dr. Robtnic himself, played by Jim Carrey. We hope the plot will be exciting and fun to watch, although again, only time will tell.
