Comics fans had plenty of reasons to be excited when HBO launched its Watchman show. The show received positive criticism, and it managed to attract a fanbase in the short time it was aired. However, it appears that this wasn’t enough for HBO, and the future of Watchmen remains unclear. After the Watchmen finale, producer Damon Lindelof offered a statement which did not give too much hope to the show’s fans: “Right now the space that HBO is in and that I’m in is we’re asking the question, Should there be another season of ‘Watchmen’?” Lindelof said. “And if there should be another season, what would it be? I’m not saying I don’t want to do it, or it shouldn’t exist. I’m just saying, ‘Boy, every idea that I had gone into this season of “Watchmen.” Limited Watchman TV Series, As Per HBO In the meantime, the status of the show was changed to the network. It appears that Watchmen is now classified as a “limited series,” while it was previously considered a “drama series. “We discussed with the producers and felt limited series was the most accurate representation of the show and any possible future installments,” read the official statement. If we analyze the situation, it appears that Lindelof is not really on board with a second season, and it seems highly unlikely that the TV network will go one with a different showrunner. While its new status does not mean that the show is necessarily over, most clues seem to the point that way. While we can’t be sure whether we’ll receive another season of Watchmen or not, the least we can do is celebrate the Lindelof’s work with the first season. Watchmen managed to stay close to its source material while and deliver its own perspective as well, and that is not a simple thing to do.
