The company that is behind the original Segway has talked on Friday about its plans for creating a personal "transporting pod". It is meant to allow its users to travel around on what is, well, an electric wheelchair. Segway created an egg-shaped 'transporting pod' This wheelchair is set to be uncovered next week at CES 2020, which is the biggest consumer tech event of the year. The company stated that the S-Pod could hit speeds of up to 24 mph, and we are so excited! Just like the original Segway, the S-Pod works with two wheels, but it is "self-balancing," as the company says. Instead of asking for the user to navigate by leaning forward and backward, the S-Pod works with a navigation pad to point the vehicle in the direction that you want to go. The company suggested that the S-Pod is quite perfect for "enclosed campuses such as airports, theme parks, and malls." Whats inspired Segway The inspiration for the vehicle came from the gyrosphere vehicles from the 2015 movie "Jurassic World" \u2013 it is the one that transport visitors around the amusement park. But the S-Pod is already making people think about another movie vehicle: the hover chains in the Disney-Pixar animated movie called "Wall-E," which passengers use in order to travel around. Soon, people will be able to try the S-Pod for the very first time at CES 2020, which will take place on Tuesday, in Las Vegas. But the S-Pod is not on sale for the general public as of now. It will be - The Verge stated that it would likely be available for the general public in 2021, or even later.
