Apple will get a laser for the latest 3D camera from the Lumentum company. It’s the same company that gives the lasers for the front-facing 3D camera of the iPhone. But the huge tech giant is not the first one to add a rear-facing depth camera. Samsung has also added this feature for its Galaxy Note 10+, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy 20+ Ultra phones. But Apple wants to make it unique through the camera/sensor feature. The iPhone already has depth cameras, used for Face ID security. The iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max have three camera lenses on the rear, one of 12 MP, wide-angle. One of 12MP, 2X telephoto lens, and one of 12MP, ultra-wide-angle lens. The 3D camera will add depth to the photos. How does the camera work? The technology behind the depth camera stands in a rear-facing vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL). This laser emits lightwaves consistently, and it also measures the time which takes for every ray to get on objects and then return to the sensor. The light which returns from the environment has a shorter time of flight, and the light returning from the object that was far away has a higher time of flight.
