The space management sim Startopia rocked the gaming world almost 20 years ago. Ever since fans have been eagerly waiting for a sequel. After the tedious wait, Spacebase Startopia is finally coming out. It is developed by Realmforge Studio, and it will be available for purchase on October 23. Until that happens, you can read here what you will be doing as a space station administrator in-game.
According to Realmforge, Sapcebase Startopia is a fresh take on a game which, for some reason, it fails to mention explicitly. We have taken, however, a look at Gamescom, and we believe that this game is the inspiration for the upcoming Spacebase Startopia. In that game, you are the administrator of a donut-shaped space station, which is split into three different levels. The goal of the game is to attract alien visitors by catering to a variety of their needs. The similarities in the games are obvious when you look at the aesthetic, the robotic helpers, the objects that you will be building, and even the layout of the station.
What Space Startopia does, however, is adding a comprehensive combat mechanic. Players will control robotic mechs during real-time strategy battles in order to deal with competing space stations and dreaded space pirates. As you can see, space hospitality is not a business for the faint of heart.
Personally, I can say that Startopia is my favorite space management simulator so far, not that there are a lot of them. What is peculiar about Startopia is that it is incredibly similar to the original game, especially when you consider the fact that it is not an official remake.
The original Startopia has already been removed from sale. This appears to have happened at the request of Square Enix, which added it to its collection when it bought the game from Eido Interactive back in 2009.
