Being released in 2013 and running for four successful seasons, the adult animated science fiction sitcom ‘Rick and Morty’ is now awaiting its fifth season. For those unaware, the series follows the misadventures of a cynical mad scientist named Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith. They have a pretty tumultuous life, splitting it between domestic life and interdimensional adventures.
While the fans are eagerly waiting for Season 5 and to see how the story will unfold in the near future, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about seeing it come as soon as possible. Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, the creators of the show themselves, announced that the upcoming Season 5 is under works:
“We’re literally writing season five while finishing season four just to force ourselves to commit to a certain schedule. Not to get anyone’s hopes up, but it is structured into our deal that if we’re going strong and fast there are options to deliver more episodes at a time,”
Furthermore, Adult Swim, which is Cartoon Network’s late-night programming block, announced season 4 with 70 extra episodes. This is another clear hint that Season 5 is coming.
When will it arrive?
This is the most obvious question now. We don’t have a precise release date, but we can expect the show to continue pretty soon. To be sure that we don’t have too much time to wait until the upcoming season starts, another hint is represented by a statement made by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon:
“The plan has always been to get them out quicker. I think it’s safe to say without fear of being wrong that the gap between seasons three and four will be the longest and last time that it’s ever so long that it’s ridiculous. I don’t know how fast we can do it, but I know it will never be this long again.”
