There is some good news for fans of the fantasy shooter genre who are also into heavy metal. If it sounds very specific, it is because it probably is, but it will still make for an interesting game. Singers from melodic death metal bands such as Soilwork, Dark Tranquility and Arch Enemy come together to shout in the upcoming Metal:Hellsinger, a new FPS in which you shoot demons while blasting heavy metal. The game sounds a bit like Crypt Of The Necrodancer, but is a lot more metal.
The game is quite atmospheric. Imagine shooting through demon hordes of hell and committing acts of violence along an amazing soundtrack. The music is not just there for background noise, either. The more in sync you are with the rhythm, the more intense the music will get and the more violence you will unleash upon the hordes of incoming enemies. Along with a story campaign, Metal: Hellsinger will feature a challenge mode and several leaderboards. The action in the release trailer does not look that impressive, to be honest, but the developers say that the game is currently in its pre-alpha stage, so there is a long way to go before the final version of the game is released.
Some of the artists which are voicing this incredible project include Mikael Stanne of Dark Tranquility, Alissa White of Gluz Arch Enemy and Bjorn Strid of Soilwork. This sounds like my teenage years.
Metal: Hellsinger is being produced by The Outsiders under the watchful eye of David Goldfarbs, who was the lead designer of the well-known Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3. Goldfarbs is also the former game director of Payday 2. Before Metal: Hellsinger, The Outsiders were working on Darkborn, but they declared that project to be officially buried in April 2020. Metal: Hellsinger is coming to Steam in 2021 and will be published by Funcom.
