A recent discovery might help us keep tires out of landfills. Researchers in Hamilton explained how they might found a method to dissolve the rubber utilized in card tire. Such a thing would help what is categorized as a single-use thing out of landfills.
What Did The Hamilton Researchers Discover?
In research published recently, a team from McMaster University stated that their approach could decrease the safety and environmental hazards related to stockpiled tires. They explained that the features that make tires long-lasting on the road also turn them into something hard to tear down and recycle. That is a reason why we see so many tires ending up in storage facilities and landfills, becoming a threat because of their contaminants.
The newly discovered method would allow used tires to become reusable and start a new cycle again. Also, the chemists detailed the process would begin by splitting the sulfur-to-sulfur link in the tire material. They explain, however, that the method would cost a lot for industrial applications.
“This is the first major step,” stated Michael Brook, the research’s lead author. The study was published in the Canadian Press on January 13.
More About Environmental Hazard
An environmental hazard represents all the substances, events, or states which could bring a threat to the surrounding natural area. It could profoundly affect our lives, harming our health. Any single or mix of a biological, toxic, or physical agent in the environment coming from human actions or natural ways that may threaten the health of revealed subjects, such as heavy metals, pollutants, and home chemicals.
For example, human-made hazards, while not directly health-threatening, might become harmful to people’s well-being; ultimately, because decay in the environment can generate secondary, undesired adverse results on our ecosphere. Hazards are categorized as biological, chemical, psychosocial, and physical.
