Fortnite: Events Delayed by US Protests

Epic Games Store has just announced that, because various protests against police have been going on in the US, the “The Device” live event on Fortnite and the start of the long-awaited Fortnite Season 3 have both been delayed. Regarding their decision, Epic Games Store has declared that the recent events are a strong reminder of the current injustices going on in our society. These injustices range from human rights to the impact, both social and institutional, that people of color face. Epic Games is extremely aware of the pain that their communities, team members, families and friends are facing due to the current circumstances.

Epic Games also wrote that the organization is a strong believer in diversity, inclusion, justice and equality. They have mentioned that these fundamentals are all above petty politics. Epic Games’ team desperately wants to move Fortnite forward, but the launch of the event must be synchronized by the time their team uses to focus on their communities, families, friends and on themselves.

Currently, the Device live event is scheduled to take place on June 15. The start of the long-awaited Fortinte Season 3 will come just a couple of days later, on June 17.  The release of Fortnite Season 3 was supposed to take place on June 6, but it will actually come on June 17.

The current protests, which have been met with violence by both National Guard Units and police, were sparked by the murder of George Floyd on May 25. The African American man was killed on May 25 by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. After three long days of protests, Chauvin was accused of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, but the charges were changed today to second-degree murder. The other officers present on scene, who did not intervene, were charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.
