In a news post on the official Netflix website, the online film streaming service announced it has acquired the rights to adapt a feature film and anime television series based on the BRZRKR comic book series created by Matrix star Keanu Reeves. Reeves is also set to star in and executive produce the adaptation. Reeves will also reprise his role and voice his character in the anime series.

BRZRKR tells the tale of a half-god known only as “B” who is doomed to an eternity of brutality. It details the immortal warrior’s epic clashes through his 80,000 years of life on Earth. After millenia of wandering the Earth, he finds himself recruited to serve as an agent for the U.S. government tasked with handling situations that are too dangerous for mere mortals. In exchange for doing the government’s dirty work, B is promised the truth about his existence, why he is cursed to kill until the end of time, and how he can finally bring an end to it all.

The live action film adaptation will closely follow the events from the comic book series, but the anime will expand the BRZRKR universe and explore new perspectives and elements of the story.

BRZRKR is published by BOOM! Studios and based on an original concept developed by Keanu Reeves over several years. The 12-issue limited series is written by Reeves and Matt Kindt, the New York Times Bestselling graphic novelist behind MIND MGMT. The first issue launched on March 3, 2021 and has already moved more than 615,000 copies. It is the best-selling comic series launch in nearly three decades.

Reeves has been busy with several projects outside of BRZRKR. Reeves recently wrapped production on Matrix 4 and is set to begin production on John Wick 4 in Spring.
