Alita: Battle Angel 2 can be released sooner than expected, as the movie has met one of the biggest fanbases out there. Ever since the digital release of the movie happened, fans of the film have been asking for a sequel. They even started petitions and Twitter trends. The latest campaign included a flying a banner with #ALITASEQUEL at the 2020 Oscar awards.
Disney is aware of the fanbase and their expectations, and they might finally come with details about the movie, they might even release the movie earlier than thought. A second movie would have never been in plans if it weren’t for the sum of money from the US box-office.
Is Disney going to listen to its fans?
The sequel was a huge topic at the 2020 Oscar awards, even if it wasn’t part of the nominees. Fans raised $1,810 through GoFundM in order to print the banner – the names Alita Sequel and Alita Army were flying at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, where the Oscars took place. But that’s not all. The campaign raised more money than needed, and now they set a new goal of $15,000.
They want to partner with Open Bionics in order to provide affordable bionic limbs for people who need them – just like cyborgs in the movie. The co-producer of the movie asked for fans’ support for the movie to be made.
So when is the release date?
In the next movie, we’ll see more of Alita after she wins the motor ball tournament and goes to Zalem to get revenge on Nova. He will have a bigger role in the movie. There are many manga sources for this next movie, so new content for us. The release date is around 2023, according to some reports.
