Alien Life Search – NASA And SETI Work On A New Telescope To Search For Extraterrestrials

Alien life! We, humans, have searched for it since the dawn of our civilization. And, for the moment, we had no success in our search for ET. The modern space technology helped us have a glimpse over other planets, exoplanets, to be more specific, but we’re still far from spotting extraterrestrials.

Now, NASA and SETI collaborate on the development of a new telescope to search for alien life better than before. And, by judging that NASA and SETI are behind the buttons, we might finally have a reliable method to zoom-in on deep space planets that might support life.

“We’ve spent a lot of time over the years trying to distance ourselves from pseudoscience and UFOs. We’ve done the scientific exploration that we’re engaged in a way that scientists in other disciplines do their work, and we published the papers. We’ve gone through the peer reviews, and we built interesting instrumentation,” explained Jill Tarter, Chair Emeritus for SETI Research at the SETI Institute in California.

NASA and SETI announced the collaboration between them this week, on Wednesday, during the International Aeronautical Congress. We now have thousands of exoplanets that orbit their host stars within the so-called Goldilocks Zone, inside the habitable area of a solar system.

Also, looking at planets outside our solar system revealed to us the presence of extremophiles on our own planet. These are some microorganisms that can live under extreme heat and pressure. “If you know that there’s this potentially habitable real estate out there, how can you not ask the question is any of it actually inhabited?” asked Jill Tarter. “We don’t know how to find [extraterrestrial intelligence]. We don’t even know how to define it very well,” she added.

In conclusion, NASA and SETI started a joint mission to search for alien life. We are indeed curious to see how this investigation on extraterrestrial intelligence would conclude.
